Los Angeles Lakers vs Brooklyn Nets NBA Pick 1/23/20
It’s another top-billing interconference clash on Thursday when the championship favorites in the West travel to the Big Apple to face the embattled Brooklyn Nets. The Los Angeles Lakers head on the road to defend their 18-4 away and their overall 34-9 record as they march towards the playoff season showing steady form. The LA Lakers looked destined not to lose a game after the turn of the year, and it all came crashing down when they hit Boston. The team lost that game on account of a lot of reason, notwithstanding Anthony Davis notching just 9 points and Lebron James passing the ball too much. The number one seed in the West will hope for the same aggressive display from their bigs as when they won against the Knicks on Wednesday.
When the Nets made their offseason deals, they couldn’t have expected to experience the season that they are having at this moment in time. Both their marquee signings, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, have been sidelined through injury for most of the season while Irving’s comeback hasn’t changed much for the Nets. They face an invigorated LA that beat another New York team, and they want to find form before they end their five games on the road.
Los Angeles Lakers vs Brooklyn Nets Predictions
The Nets’ key man has been in the papers for all the wrong reasons, and with a meeting against his former teammate King James at his new home, this will surely rile him up. Irving didn’t play in Monday’s loss to Philadelphia, but coach Kenny Atkinson had confirmed that he practiced with the team on Wednesday. If he makes an appearance on Thursday, it will be his 16th appearance of the season. Let’s check out some of the factors that may shape how the game pans out:
- Even if he’s not in full health, Irving is a key figure in this Nets team. He’s averaging 26.5 points and 6.9 assists per game this season and will have a point to prove against the team touted to win the chip.
- Leading the Pacific Division is LA’s main objective and they will look to take advantage of the depleted Nets team. It’s a toss-up whether DeAndre Jordan and Nic Claxton will feature in the game between the dislocated finger and shoulder contusion.
- The Nets will have an uphill battle against Los Angeles that averages 114.7 points per game while the let in 109.4 points a night. They have AD back to full fitness and the bench is pitching in some stellar numbers.
- Brooklyn is only averaging 109.3 points and also allows 111.6 points per game which is responsible for why the team is in 8th position in the Eastern Conference. It will be interesting to find out how the Nets handle LA’s bigs while keeping in mind the talent on the bench in Kyle Kuzma, Danny Green, and the rest of the roster.
NBA Moneyline Odds
It would take something special from the Nets to beat LA, and players like Spencer Dinwiddie will have to put up some big numbers to shift the focus from Irving. His contribution of 21.8 points and 6.4 assists per game will be needed tonight. However, the stats indicate that LA should have enough to overcome the Nets test. The scoring prowess of a fit AD and King James will make this an easy win and cover the spread of between 115-104.
