The Canadiens had looked like a team that has found rhythm following getting a couple of wins under their belt. The Blue Jackets popped the bubble when they arrived in Montreal, winning 4-3 on the night.
The New Jersey Devils cannot shake the monkey off their back with their record getting worse with each game they play. The loss to Nashville Predators and the Dallas Stars meant that the Devils remain last in the Metropolitan Division, with an 18-24-9 record this season. There still a lot of hockey to be played between now and the beginning of the playoffs, but it’s safe to say that New Jersey wants this season over and done with.

The Devils games at home are almost predictable to call, with a dismal record of 7-9-9 this season. The problem they are facing is that they are unable to keep the opposition from scoring, ranked 30th in goals allowed in the league this season. This is just the tip of the iceberg, here’s why they have a terrible record:
- The Devils sit in position 26th in goals scored this season. That is a rather low return and it just piles on the pressure on the defense that isn’t having the best of times currently.
- It is possible that New Jersey will be without P.K. Subban through injury, a minus that they cannot afford. The defenceman is an integral part of their wall and coach Alain Nasreddine will be tasked with finding a decent alternative to get the win.
- The Canadiens will also be missing their prized possession in goalie Carey Price with a flu bug. The replacement, Cayden Primeau, has a record of 12-7-2, with a 2.70 goals-against average and a .899 save percentage.
- The Canadiens will be out to make amends of their loss, bearing in mind that if the regular season was to end today, the Canadiens would miss the playoffs.
