Colorado Avalanche vs Los Angeles Kings NHL Pick 3/9/20
The West Coast’s dominant force, the Colorado Avalanche face the worst side in the Western Conference, the Los Angeles Kings in Monday night’s top NHL pick. Colorado snapped a possible third loss in a row when they defeated the San Jose Sharks 4-3 to get back to winning ways. They have won eight of the last ten games to position themselves in second place of the Central Division. The Avs brought back the smiles on their fan’s faces last time out following back-to-back defeats to Anaheim Ducks and the Vancouver Canucks.
The Kings are on a resurgence if the last couple of results are any indicator, coming into the game with a five-game winning streak. They are in scintillating form, winning seven of the previous ten games in the league. Of the last ten games, the Los Angeles Kings fell to Colorado at home, and they will be hoping to avoid the same fate this time around.
Colorado Avalanche vs Los Angeles Kings Predictions
The Kings will have to tap into the same reservoir that has kept a dim light running on their chances of playing in this year’s postseason. To build on their winning run, they will have to be on point defensively to guard against Nathan MacKinnon and his chargers. Here’s a list of talking points that will determine tonight’s result:
- The Colorado Avalanche has a 41-19-8 record this season and is trailing St. Louis Blues by two points at the top of the Central Division. They will hope that the team’s leading scorer Nathan MacKinnon doesn’t suffer from dead legs after back-to-back games. MacKinnon leads the Avs with 35 goals and 93 points this season.
- The back-to-back shock defeats came as a result of defensive lapses. They are allowing 2.7 goals per game for the season while they kill most of the opposition’s power plays standing at 80.5 percent.
- With the sun setting on the Kings season, they are surprising opponents with grit that wasn’t there in their performances earlier on this season. The Los Angeles team is averaging 2.5 goals per game and is only scoring on 17.1 percent of their power plays, which is the main reason why they find themselves in the fringes of the bottom of the conference.
- They will hope that Anze Kopitar has a near-perfect game as he leads the team with 21 goals this campaign. He will be banking on the form of teammates Drew Doughty and Dustin Brown who are averaging good numbers this season
Moneyline NHL Bets
Betting on the Los Angeles Kings to pull off an escape and sneak into the playoffs is a risky bet. None like pegging them as favorites to win against Colorado. The Avs team is gunning for the top spot and will fight to win even though the schedule is rather demanding. We still feel like they will have enough in their arsenal to defeat a well-oiled Kings’ side.
